Section 1 - Booking
Question 1.
Do I have to rent Friday
to Friday or can I book any day to start my hire?
Answer 1. You can book any
day to any day, however in the high season there is a 7 night
minimum hire except for when there may be last minute availability,
please call for information.
The usual pick up time is
between 3.45pm and 6pm with return 9.30am to 11am, these can be
changed. It takes approximately 1 hour to
complete the hand over and show you how the vehicle and living area
works. The earlier return time is to
allow cleaning before the start of the next hire.
Late returns can have a
significant impact on the next hire.
If the motorhome is late
there may be an extra charge, typically £50 plus any additional
costs incurred by us and our booking agent.
Either way telephone
Hire-n-Go if you are likely to be late returning the motorhome.
There are no refunds for
motorhomes returned early.
Question 2. How do I book a motorhome?
Answer 2. E-mail
Owner@Hire-n-Go.co.uk or
call Tracey on 07980 964753
or 01302 772989
for accurate availability, to answer a few
questions and
to state any special requirements.
We will then confirm the availability of
the motorhome, cost of the hire and answer any other questions you
have. If you wish to confirm the
booking at that point the agent will ask you for a non-refundable
deposit of £250 which can be paid by card over the phone or by
cheque. If the hire is less than 6 weeks away then
payment in full may be required. The booking is not
confirmed until either the deposit
or the full payment has been received.
Question 3. What is the cost of the vehicle, insurance and all the included items?
Answer 3. We operate a simple price structure. Pick the week that you want. Take off any discount from previous hires or deals. This is the price you pay. A second week? Deduct a further 10%, 3rd and subsequent weeks deduct a further 5%. See worked example below to see the discount that you can achieve. Our structure gives you savings when other companies are charging peak rates. Minimum hire is 3 nights less Bank Holidays:

Section 2 - Touring and Technical
Question 1.
Am I allowed
to stop and sleep anywhere?
Answer 1.
No.
Some local councils, particularly
in tourist areas, have an unhealthy interest in preventing
motorhomes from parking and especially from staying overnight.
It is wise to take the
time to read the parking regulations in force at the time.
Fortunately there are
authorized places to stop over for day time activities, National
Trust members do well here and have numerous free car parks for
their use. (Remember your NT Membership Card
if you have one). However, for your own personal
safety it is suggested that you spend your nights on registered camp
sites. This especially applies on the continent at
the present time.
Question 2. What miles per gallon (mpg) can
Answer 2.
The Chausson
Flash 03 is on a Ford Transit 350L chassis with the very latest 2.2
litre turbo diesel engine offering some 130 bhp.
They have 6 gears and cruise
control to assist you gaining the optimum mpg which according to the
on board computer is currently just over 25 mpg (8.6 km/l).
This is good for any
vehicle of this size and weight considering that they have not yet
been run in. Mpg is expected to increase the
more they are used, 30 mpg (10.6 km/l) has been quoted.
Also it is worth noting that running
with an empty waste water tank and a half full fresh water tank
saves some 250lbs (113 kg) whilst using the habitation travelling
pulse air diesel heating and cabin air conditioning will reduce mpg
by about 10%.
Question 3.
What are the dimensions of
the motorhome?
Answer
3.
The Flash 03s
are the optimum size for UK campsites; anything larger usually
incurs extra fees and limits access on smaller sites.
Their length is 6.52 m (21’ 5”)
including folded bike rack and 7.1 m (23’ 4”) with the 4 bike
carrier extended.
The width is 2.3 m (7’ 7”)
with a max height of 3.15 m (10’ 4”) allowing for the TV / Freeview
aerial stowed. (Do not travel with the aerial extended,
they’re very expensive!)
Question 4. Can your vehicles tow trailers,
Answer 4.
No, none of the vehicles
have tow bars fitted.
A normal category B “car licence”
is sufficient to drive these motor homes.
Adding a trailer would mean that a C1
licence is needed, therefore it is not permitted by the insurance
company.
Question 5.
Where do I carry my
passengers?
Answer 5.
The vehicle
is designed to carry 6 people including the driver and front seat
passenger.
In the living area there are a
further 4 seats around the dining table.
These are specially
constructed to carry passengers with the 2 forward facing seats
having 3 point harnesses and to comply with European traffic law the
2 rear facing seats have lap straps.
At all times all
passengers must be strapped in.
It is also worth noting
that when travelling the propane gas supply must be turned off at
the bottle and appliance. We supply child seats and booster cushions for
a nominal fee per hire, these must be pre-booked.
Question 6. Are your vehicles exempt from London’s
Answer 6. All our motorhomes
meet the emission
standards for the Low Emission Zone (LEZ). Therefore the daily
charge does not have to be paid for this vehicle when it is used in
the zone.
Please do not
confuse this with the London Congestion Charge for which there is no
exemption and the full fee is payable either on the day or with a
surcharge / penalty on subsequent days.
The hirer is responsible
for this charge. (01 May 2008 it is £8.00 if paid promptly, see
website for details).
Answer 7.
Propane gas, identified by
the red cylinder.
The motorhomes have
4 separate appliances that use gas; the 3 element inset hob, the
grill, the static boiler and a gas option for the fridge should the
12v fail.
Each of these
appliances has a separate stop tap, the use of which will be
demonstrated during the handover of the motorhome.
The appliances of our
motorhomes use propane gas supplied by Calor.
Calor is available all
over the UK and is easily obtained from caravan dealers, garden
centres, some supermarket garages and by calling 0800 662 663.
The bottles we use are the
very latest 6 kg lightweight red bottles with the grey plastic
handles.
(These are half the
weight of the traditional 6 kg bottle).
Please do not use any
other suppliers’ bottles as they cannot be exchanged and Calor will
raise a bill for £29.99 as part of the Refill Agreement Charge.
Should you run out of
propane gas then the 3.9 kg BBQ gas bottle is a safe replacement.
A bottle changing spanner
is provided. 6kg should last between 14 and 20
days in normal use.
Question 8. Not all motorhome pitches are level,
Answer 8.
These days most pitches
are fairly level.
However, to achieve
a level parking position the vehicle is equipped with large orange
plastic ramps that can be driven up to raise either the front or the
rear of the vehicles some 6 inches.
Also should the ground
become a little soft there are some pieces of heavy duty plastic
track way for placing under the wheels to prevent sinking. If you
drive over these please ensure that they are secured to the floor to
prevent them being propelled backwards as the vehicle drives
forwards.
Answer 9.
Our motorhomes have these
fitted and run primarily from propane gas.
However, as the law
requires that propane cylinders are closed when travelling our
vehicles have a special living area heater that can operate using
main fuel tank diesel when moving.
This is very useful during
the Winter months!
Answer 10. At various times of the year it appears that all the campsites are full. It is therefore better to plan your stopovers sooner rather than later as late availability can be a problem.
Each of our vehicles has a 2008 copy of Cade’s UK Camping Sites in it. (Personally we have used this title since 1989 as it offers good value and a sensible level of detail). However to research before you trip we suggest: any of the following as a start point:
